Project activities and outputs
Phase 1 (Feb-May 2013)
In Phase 1 the objective was to unleash and build upon the intrinsic capacities of communities, community organizations and academic institutions in order to form a common research vision, focusing on processes and conditions for scaling up co-design practice and extend reach.
The objectives were to use a co-design process in order to deliver:
1) A research agenda and plan for scaling up co-design practice (feeding into the research plan of Phase 2)
2) A living document that outlines the community-academic co-creation and co-delivery principles (a 'code of practice')
3) Reflections and emotions about the co-design process and its outcomes ('visual notebook of reflections').
To facilitate co-design of the research agenda and the creation of a common vision we used a co-design process largely based on 'Design by Consensus'. Design by Consensus is a method originally developed by the Glass-House Community Led Design with the aim to help people with different backgrounds, roles and expertise to create a common vision for their design project. We used an adapted version of Design by Consensus to facilitate sharing of experiences, views and opinions about the research theme and shape of the project. We adopted an open, collaborative approach to activities, and the emphasis was on creating the conditions for everyone to state their needs and wants and on finding ways to build on existing capabilities and assets.
