Team and partners
The project brings together academics and community organizations that are involved in co-design (whether buildings, spaces, products or services).
Dr. Theodore Zamenopoulos (Principal Investigator, Open University) brings expertise on the psychological and social conditions that enable creativity and on approaches for community formation.
Dr. Katerina Alexiou (Co-investigator, Open University) brings expertise in design methods and community-led design particularly in the context of the built environment.
Prof. Andy Dearden (Co-investigator, Sheffield Hallam University) brings research expertise in participation in design, and the role of design in promoting social and economic development, especially in relation to voluntary and community organisations.
Dr. Busayawam Lam (Co-investigator, Brunel University) brings expertise in user requirements research, design management and social innovation.
Prof. Ann Light (Co-Investigator, Northumbria University) has worked with communities in the CC programme using action and arts-based methods to research technology and media use, exploitation of cultural heritage, sharing practices and also the experience of being researched.
Our community partners are Sophia de Sousa from The Glass-House Community Led Design, Paula Graham from Fossbox and Flossie, Colin Foskett from the Blackwood Foundation, and Justine Gaubert from Silent Cities. Hannah Goraya is offering consultancy in issues of inclusion and citizen engagement.
The Glass-House is a national charity working to help people make better buildings, spaces, homes and neighbourhoods through independent advice, training and hands-on support.
Fossbox is a community interest company that advocates and specialises in open source web-based software and provides consultancy and ICT services to a wide range of community and voluntary organizations. Flossie is a network of women promoting open-source/software libre for digital arts, social innovation and open culture.
The Blackwood Foundation is a registered charity focused on design and technology to support and enhance independent living for people with a disability or support need. Their ‘bespoken’ social network provides an open forum for exploring design for independent living.
Silent Cities is a grass roots social enterprise that aims to build creative environments where isolated and disadvantaged individuals and groups can flourish. They work with the ‘silent voices’ of our cities to help them develop the skills needed to work in the creative sector.
